How the countdown is calculated
The day count is the number of calendar midnights between today and your target date, using the date and time zone on your device. On the day before an event the answer is 1 day; on the event itself the tool says Today. The hours, minutes and seconds in the grid count to the start of the target date, midnight local time, and they reduce live while the page is open.
The presets choose the next occurrence of a fixed-date holiday. If Christmas has already passed this year, the Christmas button fills in December 25 of next year. Moveable holidays such as Easter, Thanksgiving and Mother's Day change every year, so enter their date by hand.
Weekdays left and planning
The weekday figure shows how many Monday to Friday days remain before the target date, counting today. It is useful when a deadline falls on a date but the work happens on working days. Public holidays are not subtracted, so reduce the figure for any local holiday in the period.
For long countdowns it also helps to think in weeks. Seven days at a time is easier to plan around than a bare number: 100 days is 14 weeks and 2 days. The grid shows both, plus the calendar breakdown in months and days.

Counting in the other direction
If the date you enter has already passed, the calculator says so and points to the days since calculator, which counts upwards from a past date and shows the date of the next 100-day mark and the next anniversary.
Frequently asked questions
How many days are left until Christmas?
Tap the Christmas preset. The calculator picks December 25 of this year, or of next year if it has passed, and shows the exact days, weeks and hours remaining.
Is the day I enter included in the count?
The count is the gap between today and the date, so tomorrow is 1 day away and the target date itself shows as Today when you reach it.
Why do the hours not equal days times 24?
The hours count from right now to the start of the target date, so they include only the part of today that is left. Days are whole calendar days.
Can I count down to a date in a different time zone?
The tool uses your device's time zone. For an event elsewhere, the count to the start of the date may be a few hours off from local time at the event.
Does it work for dates years away?
Yes. Any valid calendar date works, and the result also shows the gap in years, months and days.
