Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about how Life in Numbers works.
How accurate are these numbers?+
All figures are estimates based on published global averages. Resting heart rate (70 bpm), breathing rate (16 breaths/min), daily steps (8,000), and sleep (8 hours/day) are well-established averages from medical literature. Your actual numbers may vary based on fitness level, health, and lifestyle.
Do you store my birth date?+
No. All calculations happen entirely in your browser using JavaScript. Your birth date and name are never sent to our servers and are not stored anywhere.
How many heartbeats does the average person have in a lifetime?+
Assuming an average resting heart rate of 70 beats per minute and a lifespan of 80 years, the average person experiences approximately 2.94 billion heartbeats in a lifetime. Your count is different because your heart also beats faster during exercise, stress, and emotion.
How many breaths does a person take in a lifetime?+
At a resting rate of 16 breaths per minute, the average person takes roughly 672 million breaths over an 80-year lifetime. Over a single day, that is approximately 23,000 breaths.
How many steps does an average person walk in their lifetime?+
Using the global average of 8,000 steps per day, a person walks approximately 232 million steps over an 80-year lifetime — equivalent to circumnavigating the Earth roughly 4.5 times.
Why does the seconds counter keep changing?+
The counter is live. It updates every second in real time, so you can watch the numbers tick up as time passes. Refresh the page to reset — then re-enter your birthday to see them resume counting.
How much blood does the heart pump in a lifetime?+
Your heart pumps approximately 5 litres of blood per minute. Over an 80-year lifetime, that amounts to roughly 210 million litres of blood — enough to fill around 84 Olympic swimming pools.
Can I share my results?+
Yes. After calculating your stats, tap the 'Copy Share Text' button. It generates a short message with your heartbeat and breath counts that you can paste into any social media app, message, or email.
Is this tool free?+
Completely free. No sign-up, no subscription, no data collection. The site is supported by Google AdSense display advertising.
Will you add more statistics?+
Yes. We are planning to add: words spoken, calories burned, times laughed (estimated), hair grown, and nail length grown. If you have a suggestion, send it to hello@lifeinnumbers.xyz.
