Days Between Dates Calculator
Pick two dates to see the number of days between them, converted to weeks, months and years, with weekdays and weekend days counted separately.
Pick two dates. Weekday counts skip Saturdays and Sundays but not public holidays, which differ by country.
Including or excluding the end date
By default the calculator counts the gap between the dates: it is the number you get from subtracting one from the other. January 1 to December 31, 2026 is 364 days because the start day is not counted. Tick "Include the end date" and the same range becomes 365 days, which counts every date on the calendar from the first to the last.
Which one is right depends on what you are measuring. Use the default for elapsed time, such as how many days until an event. Use the inclusive count when both the first and last date count as a full day, for example a conference, a leave of absence or a challenge that runs from one date to another.
Weekdays and weekends
The grid separates Monday to Friday from Saturday and Sunday. In 2026 there are 261 weekdays between January 1 and the following January 1. Public holidays are not removed because they differ between countries and regions, so subtract them yourself for a working-day estimate.
As a rule of thumb, a span of N days contains about 5N/7 weekdays, and any seven consecutive days contain exactly five of them. Working in whole weeks first and then checking the leftover days is the fastest way to verify a result by hand.
Leap years and month lengths
Months do not have the same length, which is why a difference in "months and days" is a calendar-aware calculation. The calculator adds whole months to your start date, shortening to the last day of a month when needed, then counts the remaining days. February 28 to March 1 is 1 day in 2026 but 2 days in 2028, because 2028 contains a February 29.
- A year divisible by 4 is a leap year, unless it is a century year not divisible by 400.
- 2000 was a leap year; 1900 and 2100 are not.
- Dates are compared as calendar dates, so daylight saving time never adds or removes a day.
Before relying on a count
Contracts, notice periods and legal deadlines often define their own counting rules, such as whether the first day counts or whether weekends are skipped. Use this tool for planning and check the governing document for anything binding.
Frequently asked questions
How do I count the days between two dates?
Subtract the earlier date from the later one. The calculator does this for you and also shows weeks, calendar months, weekdays and hours.
Does the calculation include the start and end dates?
By default it excludes the start date, which gives the elapsed gap. Tick Include the end date to count both ends and add one day.
How many weekdays are in a year?
A year has between 260 and 262 weekdays, depending on the year and where the extra day or days fall. The average is about 260.9.
Does it account for public holidays?
No. Holidays differ by country, so the weekday count includes them. Subtract your local holidays for a working-day figure.
What if my start date is after my end date?
The calculator swaps the two dates and shows a note, so you always get a positive number of days.
